Firstly thanks to George for a very enjoyable butterfly and moth training course at Parc Slip on Saturday - the weather wasn't ideal with a very cool wind and some heavy showers but it was a good day nonetheless. Two moth traps were set the night before and we had a rather disappointing 15 species between the two with a few FFY: sharp-angled peacock, small seraphim, may highflyer, flame and a very nicely-marked ingrailed clay.
We had better luck when we went out with nets in the afternoon with over a dozen moth species seen including Micropterix tunbergella which hadn't been recorded from Parc Slip before. The only migrant we saw was a single rush veneer.
Glad there was at least one good record on an otherwise quiet day lep-wise. Shaking hawthorn flowers into a net is obviously a good way to find tunbergella as there were 3 on that one branch!
