Coed-y-bedw last night
I left two 6W actinics at Coed-y-bedw last night, my first mobile trapping of the year. Although it fell to 4C by dawn, it was still 10C at dusk and a reasonable catch of 14 species resulted. This included the micros Acleris cristana and A. notana/ferrugana (tbc), both new for the site, plus Semioscopis avellanella (a local species last recorded here in 1997).
Macros included Mottled Grey, Oak Beauty, Satellite, Twin-spotted Quaker and Yellow-horned.

ReplyDeleteI have just returned from a week's walking in Pembrokeshire based in a cottage in Landshipping. I took a 30w actinic moth trap with me and put it out on three occasions and the overnight minimums were -3.8C on Saturday, -1.8C on Monday and -2.5C on Thursday - 8 degrees difference in temperature compared with Coed y Bedw on Saturday!!!
Must be hardy moths in South Pembs though, as I still managed a total of 50 moths over the three nights made up of 18 species.
